Salt and Melting

What You Need:

  • 2 cups water
  • Salt
  • A plate

Instructions:

Part 1

  1. Take 2 cups of water.
  2. Place about a tablespoon of salt in one of the cups, and stir.
  3. Place both cups in the freezer.
  4. Check each cup about every 10 minutes. Which one do you think will freeze first?

Part 2

  1. Now get an ice cube out of the freezer.
  2. Place the ice cube on a plate and begin sprinkling salt on the ice cube. Watch how it melts… now you see why people sprinkle salt on their driveways when it snows!
