This weekend, Hurricane Irene hit the east coast, but that didn’t stop us from attending the annual Greenberg Train and Toy Show at the Dulles Expo Center. I took our two sons, both of whom love trains, especially our 3-year-old.
This show is always worth a visit and is particularly family-friendly since kids under 12 can get in free.
There were plenty of model railroad layouts on display to amaze and delight the little ones (and us parents). The modelers recreate real and imaginary villages and populate them with tiny cars and plastic people, each painstakingly painted and detailed.
Model trains come in a variety of sizes ranging from the tiniest (Z-Scale) all the way up to garden trains (G-Scale). This show had a fun garden train set up with a pond and live plants and flowers. Of course, the favorite locomotive was Thomas the Tank Engine.
If you’ve never attended a train show, I highly recommend it. The kids will thank you for it.
